Q: Why isn’t ‘The Secret’ working for me?

A: Sometimes getting what you want is like giving lollies to children, or worse, to diabetics.  The thing that you want most may be the very worst thing you could have.  Sometimes your Higher Self has other plans for you and giving you what you think you want may derail your entire spiritual progress.

The most common thing I hear people ask for is more money.  The universe will give you more of what you have already, so how are you managing what you already have?  Do you constantly over spend?  Do you ‘comfort shop’?  DO you wonder where your money goes every month?  Get on top of your spending.  Keep track of what you’re spending and where your money goes.  Chances are, if you get more money, it’s just going to go in the same way and you won’t be any better off.

Start a savings plan - even $20 a week tells the universe you have an abundance.  Racking up your credit card every month tells the universe you have a lack.  It doesn’t matter how much money you have, you can still send a positive message to the universe.  If you’re a single parent on a benefit or someone on a carer’s pension, you probably legitimately have cause to complain about not having enough, but I’ll say the same thing to you - keep track of were your money goes, don’t use credit and give thanks for what you DO have.  Keep affirming that money comes to you easily, that all you expenses are met and so forth.

Q:I often worry about not being able to pay the bills on time. I want to be free from all debt & it’s slow going paying down the balances even though I pay extra. I often find myself saying we can’t afford this or that…the fun extra stuff. I have keep an online gratitude journal. I also have the Louise Hay book you mentioned. I guess the thing I have the most problem is with raising my energy & not letting the reality of our situation drag me down. We’re not in dire straits by any means, but we’re not as comfortable as I’d like to be either. Also, we are a one-income family. I’d love to be able to find a way to earn cash and yet still be here to homeschool my children.

Allison:

I often worry about not being able to pay the bills on time.

Has this ever happened? And even if it does, what’s the worst that will happen? A late payment fee? There are no debt police out there to hunt you down. You’re quite safe.

You won’t be in this situation forever - it’s a temporary glitch on your road to financial independence. Just keep paying down your balances and don’t think about it further. Stay AWAY from all forms of credit in future because buying something on credit is a negative affirmation, plus it drains your energy because it keeps you chained to the past while you pay it offf. Only use your cc for emergencies like medical expenses, home or car emergencies.

The Dave Ramsey plan for paying down debt is a good one.

In terms of raising your energy, you can start doing this by:

  • Watching what you eat - eliminate low energy processed foods and sugar.
  • Be aware of what you are exposing yourself to - late night crime shows with violence, talk back radio where people tawk tawk tawk about thier problems, even shows like Jerry Springer which might be entertaining, but they are certainly low energy.
  • Expose yourself to uplifting things like positive or spiritual music, audio books, tv shows and movies with a positive theme etc.
  • Every time you catch yourself thinking ‘we can’t afford it’, just be gentle with yourself and affirm something like ‘I’m excited to be getting out of debt’ ‘I’m excited to be building wealth’ and so forth. Getting out of debt and living within your means is a huge personal achievement and try and look at it like that rather than as a chore or a sacrifice. It’s a huge achivement and one to be very proud of.
  • Take a walk every day - exercise clears your energy.
  • When you have a shower, visualise the water washing away any negative residue of the day.
  • Ask your angels and gudes to surround you and uplift you.
  • Pray if you are spiritual or religious.
  • Declutter. Let me repeat that. Declutter. Having piles of crap around you drags your energy down like no one’s business. You are energetically attached to everything you own. If you are in a good space, that’s fine, but if you cling or hoard through fear or a poverty mentality, you’re having your energy drained daily - it’s like death by millions of paper cuts.
  • Love everything you have. You mgihtn’t be able to afford to have exactly what you want at this point in time, but love what you do have - clean it,polish it, display it to it’s best advantage. If you have things you don’t want to get rid of but don’t really need, just tidy them and store them neatly. I have gotten rid of hundreds of books over the years and I kind of wish I had kept them, but part of my knows they are better off at the libraries I donated them to or with the people I gave them to to read.

As you might have noticed, I have a lot to say on this topic. Please just ignore anything that doesn’t work for you or you don’t agree with. LOA and energy work is such a personal thing and there is no such thing as one size fits all.

Oh and another thing I recommend you do, if you want to, is to something symbolic to release all the unhelpful energy cords that are tying you to the past through behaviour or belief, and also those negative cords to your parents and family line that may be causing you to perpetuate a poverty consciousness.
